Dr Jon A. Vanderhoof is an attending physician in GI/Nutrition at Boston Children’s
Hospital at the Center for Advanced Intestinal Rehabilitation.
Dr Vanderhoof completed his fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at
the University of California at Los Angeles in 1976. He has published over 200 refereed
articles plus numerous chapters and reviews. He served as President of the North
American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition from 1986 to
In 2001 he received the prestigious Shwachman Award from the North American
Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition. This is the highest award in North
America given in the field of Pediatric Gastroenterology.

Bruce McLain trained in paediatric gastroenterology in Melbourne, Australia and Vancouver, Canada. Upon returning to the UK, he established his practice in Teesside, where he is still working. Dr McLain’s main areas of clinical practice are inflammatory bowel disease, eosinophilic oesophagitis, and gut allergy and coeliac disease. In his role as overseas examination lead for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH), he has helped to deliver a new exam in 12 countries outside the UK.
